Just wondering IF any one knows exactly WHY cats walk around meowing for no apparent reason to us humans?

I was told by the vet that it may the Siamese part in them - as Siamese cats are talkers / criers.

Rhapsody,
I have two Siamese and yes, they are extremely vocal. They meow to pass on information (they want food, love, play, want to use the LK and therefore I need to come watch). That's one way I've been able to monitor their LK usage all the time without just camping out in the bathroom as every time they want to poop or pee, they meow around me and then run off to the bathroom. |

Yeah--every time I go to a new phase of this process my cat walks around meowing her head off. When I switched to the amber stage she meowed at me incessantly for hours, then went a relieved herself behind the sofa. Nice. Needless to say, we reverted back to the red stage. Still there...blech.

I once read an article about why a cat meows. The theory is that they are mimicing humans - they are talking to us. Cats don't usually meow at each other, they hiss, howl, chirp or even mothers call to kittens with a purr but don't "meow". Even when they are fighting their sounds are more like screams and howls than the talking the do to us.
I would venture to say that your cat is trying to get your attention or at least, wanting to chat you up. Follow them. Talk back. When my cat needs a little reasurance to go poo she will often walk around and meow. If I pick her up and put her on the toilet and pet her and tell her how good she is, she will often go. It may take putting her on the toilet a few time, she likes to be reassured and praised. Hope this helps. |

I took him to the bathroom and put him on the toilet trainer. He rolled around in the litter then jumped down and up and down then went in the other room. I followed him and he started meowing again. I took him back to the bathroom and we repeated this process. He finally jumped up there an podied in front of me (which kinda surprised me) I told him what a smart cat he was! They're talking to us when they meow - we just gotta listen to them and figure out what they're concerned about. He also meows to go outside and to eat. The eating I can do something about, the going outside I just growl back at him until he gets tired and gives up. |
