Since progressing to the amber stage, my cat likes to shovel the litter into the toilet. He likes to try and dig to the bottom. Any suggestions?

Does he dig in the toilet or the bottom of the tray?

Mine did that, too! We tried amber for about half an hour, and the other cat reacted badly enough that I reevaluted his readiness. But the "readier" cat immediately spent that half hour trying to empty the amber tray's litter into the hole. Flushy litter is not cheap, so we ended that experiment fairly quickly, but I'm a bit concerned he will do it again the next time we try amber in a couple of weeks. I'm also worried that if he empties all the litter into the bowl, he won't actually use it for peeing after that. Any way to discourage this without making him associate discouragement with the actual LK?

that's tricky. My cat does it a little but she typically does it to make me think she went so she can meow and get a treat...also, she likes to try to drink out of the toilet. I have since started putting a couple wads of toilet paper in the toilet. It helps keep her from drinking and maybe it will help with the dumping of the litter. I also try to just nudge her on the butt to get down. Not too much so she doesn't want to go up there, but just say, "get down" in a nice voice and make it neat again. Seems to be helping me a little when she just wants to hang out up there...LOL good luck.

Most cats like to dig alot in the beginning, but they get used to dig less and less after a while...It is expensive with the flushable litter, but once you are done training you won't have to buy litter ever again, so I see it as an investment to use some extra during training...
If your cat is drinking from the toilet, there are some tips here: http://www.litterkwitter.com/forums/...negar+drinking |
